Andalucia

My apartment is in the old part of town and in the hallway of my building the walls are tiled with Andalucian tiles as is traditional in this area. They have a kind of mosaic look to them and I thought they’d be fun and a bit of a challenge for a pattern in my house translated onto my nails.

They were actually easier than I thought they’d be and I enjoyed doing them and trying to create a mosaic effect with a dotting tool. I’m pretty pleased with the result as I thought they had the potential to either look great or be a huge disaster! I hope I’ve gone more towards the great end of the spectrum!

Yesterday we had a day off work for the día de Andalucía. So I thought I’d use this as inspiration for some nail art and decided to paint some of the things which make me think of Andalucia on my nails.

On my little finger I’ve got a slightly untidy Pueblo Blanco. There are loads of these little villages with whitewashed houses with red roofs all over Andalucia and they’re really typical of this region.

My ring finger has a blue flower pot with some pretty pink bougainvillea which you can see all around the city I live in: Cordoba.

My middle finger shows an orange tree. These line the streets here in Cordoba and are heavy with oranges at the moment.

My index finger was meant to show a typical Andalusian window, blue against white walls with a little balcony and some flower pots.

And my thumb shows the Andalusian countryside in its tan colour with dotted olive trees and rolling hills.

I usually do exactly the same design on both hands, but I knew this one would be too challenging to do on my right hand, so I just used the colours that make me think of Andalucia on my right hand.
Little finger: white for the whitewashed houses in most places but especially the Pueblos Blancos.
Ring finger: blue for the perfect blue skies we’re lucky enough to see frequently here.
Middle finger: pink for the brightly coloured bougainvillea that stands out so well against the white and blue.
Index finger: tan for the colour of the earth in the countryside
Thumb: green for the flag of Andalucia (green and white)

I used way too many colours (all nail polish, no acrylics or this one)
Starting with the ones on my left hand: My Boyfriend Scales Walls – OPI, Dreamer – Revlon, Sensation – Color Addict, Hampstead Gardens – Nails Inc, Don’t Mess With OPI – OPI.
And all the other little colours I used: Cadogan Square – Nails Inc, Baker Street – Nails Inc, You Don’t Know Jacques – OPI, Hellbent – Urban Decay, Miss Grey – GOSH, Psychedelic Orange – Rimmel.
